Bhakti Yoga Shala Classics 1: by Govindas

These bhava-based tracks are kirtan classics and are on regular rotation in my classes at the Shala. Sing, Dance, and Practice In Joy!

Govindas is a California-based bhakti yogi, kirtan singer, and as his spiritual name suggests - " a servant of the divine". He is the founder and director of Bhakti Yoga Shala in Santa Monica, California. His great love and devotion for life itself, his guru, and the traditional yogic practices of India is reflected and transmitted through his teachings and music. Govindas and his wife Radha have released 3 kirtan cd's: "Endless Surrender Kirtan Experience" and "Waves of Love", "Kirtan Vibrations" and have more kirtan cd's due to be released soon. They lead evenings of kirtan, bhakti yoga classes and workshops, and transformative retreats throughout the world.

Govindas's yoga classes are an innovative play between form and formless, honoring defined traditional vinyasa yoga structures and the inner creative and playful impulse... He recognizes and shares the power of spiritual ritual- of which for the most part has been lost in our modern day culture- and its power to deepen our connection with Spirit-... his classes infuse a healing breath-based approach to hatha yoga (directly drawn from his experience with his own disease) and the devotion of bhakti- "our yoga is a manifestation and affirmation of our dedication to love, health, and longevity." As a healing artform, he intends to create an environment where the yogi/yogini can find a nurturing, nourishing, and balancing experience of breath, energy, and movement/circulation.... As a bhakti-based artform Govindas encourages yoga in the spirit of celebrating life, body and relationship and the greatest of all gifts, a human birth.... an opportunity to invoke and ope n up to "Grace"... Along with traditional yoga asanas, kriyas and breathing techniques, chanting/kirtan/mantras and free form movement/dancing are frequently used as methods to promote joy and "open up the heart"...

Govindas's uplifting and inspirational message encourages the process of spiritual awakening- the bursting out of frequently limiting and fear-based social/family/cultural and environmental conditionings and living a fully empowered and creative life centered on love and truth. Govindas and his wife Radha live in Malibu, CA overlooking the great Pacific Ocean with their son Malakai Ravi Rosen and their kitty cat named Namaste'.
